The UBSF (Basic Fluvial Health Unit) hospital boat offers health care to the riverside population (Ribeirinhos) of Marajo Island, a large delta island bordered by the Amazon River and the Atlantic Ocean in the state of Para. The boat houses a team of 12 health professionals who traverse the island's rivers near the city of Melgaco every month for 10 days. The two-story hospital boat includes one floor with a professional structure for serving the population and one floor with cabins, kitchen and bathroom for health workers and the crew.
