A nation wide delay in getting this year's flu vaccine will force the postponement of mass vaccine campaigns. Because of the delay and a possible shortfall in the number of vaccine doses produced, the state Health Department is advising that shots be given to high-risk groups first, and that large scale flu shot campaigns be postponed until at least mid-November, if they are held at all. Federal officials have said the delay in getting the vaccine is due to earlier manufacturing problems and because the slow growth of one of the strains, A/Panama, has hampered production.
