The chances are low, but not zero. Everyone has been speculating if Tampa Bay will actually see snow this weekend. Weather specialists see a 20% chance of snow in Tampa Bay this weekend. This rare prediction has locals reminiscing about earlier snowfalls, especially the notable one in 1977.
The chances keep increasing but it will take a lot of wishes and prayers. In order for this winter miracle to happen (or nightmare depending on how you look at it), we need the perfect balance of cold air + moisture. Forecasters predict there will be enough moisture in the clouds, but there will also be very dry air above them. Hopefully the warmer Gulf waters will produce the moisture needed to create the precipitation needed for flurries. And let's be clear, this is the kind of snow that you may be able to catch falling, but it won't stick around or be enough to measure.
As for outside Pinellas and Hillsborough County, the NOAA NWS Weather Prediction Center has increased the chance of seeing wintry weather in north-central Florida to as high as 40-50% in parts of Pasco, Hernando & Citrus Counties Saturday night into Sunday morning.
So is it going to snow at the Stadium Series game or at Gasparilla? No, not even close. The areas most likely to see any action are Clearwater, St. Pete Beach and New Port Richey around midnight on Saturday into Sunday. If you're really wanting to see some snow on the beach, you might have better luck taking a road trip up north Florida, like the Jacksonville area.
