Getty Images Stock PhotoTampa residents have until Friday at 5 p.m. to apply for vouchers worth up to $3,000 off electric bikes. The city's 2026 eBike Voucher Program uses a lottery system. It will distribute 248 vouchers funded by $500,000 in city money.
The program will distribute 81 standard vouchers worth $1,000. It will also give out 82 low-income vouchers worth $2,000 and 85 very low-income vouchers worth $3,000. Winners picked through the lottery will have 60 days to redeem their vouchers at seven participating local bike shops.
City officials held the final eBike Rodeo on Wednesday night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Himes Sports Complex. The event gave residents a chance to test-ride electric bikes and turn in applications before the window closes.
What You Need to Know
"Somebody can buy an ebike and actually use that as their mode of transportation and take more cars off of the street," Mayor Jane Castor told FOX 13 News in early February.
The program aims to give residents an alternative to driving as traffic increases across the area. Only Class I, Class II, and certain adaptive or cargo eBikes qualify for the discount. Class III eBikes don't qualify. Conversion kits aren't covered.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and live within city limits. Those who have redeemed a voucher in a previous year cannot apply again.
The vouchers work as upfront discounts applied at the time of purchase, not free bike giveaways. Recipients must pick a participating bike shop and get a signed purchase quote for a qualifying eBike before they submit an application.
Proof of identification and residency is required for all applicants. Those seeking income-qualified vouchers must also provide proof of income documentation.
Seven local bike shops accept the vouchers: City Bike Tampa, EMOTO Supply Co., Oliver's Cycle Sports, Outspokin Bicycles, Pedego Tampa, Tampa Bay eBikes, and Trek Bicycle Tampa.
Applications can be submitted online, in person at the city's Parking Division offices at the Fort Brooke Garage downtown, or were accepted at Wednesday's rodeo event. The deadline is Friday at 5 p.m.
