Tras atacar al comediante el hombre salió corriendo, pero los guardias de seguridad lo alcanzaron y se abrió una investigación sobre el incidente. Chris Rock que ya vivió algo parecido pero con la bofetada que le dieron en Los Oscars, se encontraba presente y hasta le preguntó a Dave Chapelle que si el hombre que lo tiró al piso era Will Smith.
